Dragzine is a high-engagement digital magazine dedicated to the world of drag racing, delivering news, technical features, event coverage, and in-depth stories that appeal to the sport’s
enthusiasts and professionals alike. The project involved a full redesign of the Dragzine website as part of a broader overhaul of eight interconnected sites, creating a cohesive yet flexible design system that supports distinct brand identities across the network.
The Brief · The Brief · The Brief
The client wanted a modern, performance-oriented redesign for Dragzine that would elevate the site’s visual impact while improving usability and consistency across devices. This was part of a strategic initiative to refresh eight related sites, each with its own audience, tone, and brand assets (color palette, logo treatments, and vibe). A key requirement was to design a set of four flexible templates that could be leveraged not only on Dragzine but also on four of the other sites in this series, ensuring visual harmony while preserving each site’s unique feel.
From a design perspective, the client stressed the importance of strong editorial layout structures, engaging multimedia presentation, and scalable components that accommodated a variety of content types—from news posts and technical articles to project features and events. Close collaboration in Figma was essential to iterate on designs, gather stakeholder feedback in real-time, and refine UI elements to match the client’s evolving vision.
Our Design
To meet the brief, we developed four adaptable templates that balance visual impact with editorial clarity. Our design process began with in-depth stakeholder workshops and an audit of existing content flows to identify key layout priorities. Leveraging Figma as our collaborative environment, we established a shared design system that included typography scales, grid systems, color palettes, and interactive components tailored to the diverse content types featured on Dragzine.
Each template was crafted with responsiveness in mind, ensuring seamless experiences across desktop and mobile devices. We introduced modular content blocks that allow editorial teams to mix and match elements dynamically, adapting for both high-impact headline stories and dense technical write-ups. By embedding flexibility into the templates, we enabled the client to maintain consistent branding while giving each of the eight partner sites its own tone through differentiated color schemes and branded assets. Throughout the project, close collaboration and iterative feedback loops in Figma allowed us to quickly align on refinements and deliver a final design system ready for deployment across multiple sites.
